Exhumation Of PALAPES Cadet’s Body To Be Carried Out Soon - Saifuddin Nasution

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- The body of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Reserve Officer Training Unit (Palapes) cadet will be exhumed as soon as possible, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will give full commitment to carrying out the process following today’s High Court ruling.

“This is a serious process involving a magistrate, family members and doctors before the body is taken to the hospital for further action by the medical team.

“The police’s duty is to ensure court orders are enforced, as in the case of the late Zara (Qairina Mahathir), where police assisted within hours,” he said at the 3rd PDRM Special Dialogue here today.

Earlier, the High Court ordered the body of Syamsul Haris Shamsudin, 22, buried at the Kampung Rinching Ulu Muslim cemetery in Semenyih, to be exhumed.

Judge Datuk Bhupindar Singh Gurcharan Singh Preet made the decision after allowing an application by the deceased’s mother, Ummu Haiman Bee Daulatgun, 45, and instructed a forensic pathologist from Kuala Lumpur Hospital to conduct a second post-mortem within 14 days after exhumation.

Syamsul Haris was undergoing training at the Army Combat Training Centre in Ulu Tiram, Johor, and died at Kota Tinggi Hospital on July 28.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said the Home Ministry encourages the use of MyDigital ID to protect the people’s personal data, noting that it will serve as an alternative to the MyKad for dealings with the public and private sectors.

“At present, amendments to the National Registration Act 1959 are being deliberated in Parliament to enable its implementation.

“After this, the public will only need a single login for all transactions. MyDigital ID will ensure safer transactions with banks, police, insurers or the Road Transport Department without changing usernames and passwords,” he said.

He added that the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) is targeting 13 million MyDigital ID registrations by year-end, with 3.8 million achieved so far.
