IPOH, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- The PENTARAMA Merdeka@HOHO programme organised by the Information Department (JAPEN) has become a dynamic platform to foster patriotism and unity through closer community engagement.
Communications Ministry senior undersecretary (Management) Mazlan Abd Mutalib said the initiative is a game changer in JAPEN’s promotional activities through strategic collaboration with Perak Transit, operator of the state’s iconic open-top buses.
“PENTARAMA combines music, dance, drama and quizzes in a casual but patriotic format, enabling JAPEN to deliver nationhood messages directly to the people,” he told reporters at the programme here last night.
Also present were JAPEN deputy director-general (Digital Content) Erwin Khairul Ahmad and Perak JAPEN director Yosri Abu Mahsin.
Held for the second year in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) celebrations, the PENTARAMA Merdeka@HOHO programme was hosted in Perak for the first time with Perak Transit as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts.
The bus made stops at several locations, including Dataran Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh, Gerbang Malam Ipoh and the Sultan Azlan Shah roundabout in Meru, with cultural performances, patriotic songs, casual talks on HKHM 2025, the “One Home One Jalur Gemilang” campaign, and interactive nationhood quizzes.
Mazlan hoped the programme would further ignite patriotism and boost local tourism.
“The response was very encouraging. God willing, it will continue next year, and we call on everyone to enliven the National Day celebration this year and in years to come.
“With PENTARAMA, we are not only educating and entertaining, but also encouraging public participation in preserving local arts and culture,” he added.

Meanwhile, civil servant Mohd Zulfadli Abdul Khir, 37, when met at Gerbang Malam Ipoh, said such programmes should continue to help children appreciate the nation’s independence.
His son Ammar Zharif, 11, who joined the quiz, described the activities as very interesting and hoped to see them held again.
