KANGAR, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The Communications Ministry continues to assist former media practitioners who are facing health issues, with two more receiving assistance from the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA fund in Perlis.
Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa presented the contribution to former part-time reporter and photographer of China Press, Abdul Karim Ahmad, 72, who is suffering from diabetes, at Kampung Guar Syed Alwi here today.
Also present were Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Bernama editor-in-chief and HAWANA 2025 project director Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
Earlier on Friday, Nur-ul Afida had presented a contribution to former part-time Berita Harian reporter Mohd Rashidi Abd Karim, 59, who is suffering from kidney stones.
This initiative, implemented by the ministry through Bernama in conjunction with the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2023, is a symbol of the MADANI Government’s concern in highlighting the values of compassion, empathy and appreciation for the role of the media.
The two former media practitioners also received flags in conjunction with the 1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang campaign in conjunction with the 68th National Day celebration.
Meanwhile, Mohd Rashidi expressed his gratitude for the concern shown by the Communications Ministry and Bernama for his welfare as a former media practitioner.
He said the contribution brought him joy as it made him feel appreciated and recognised for his role throughout his time as a part-time reporter from 1989 to 2015.
Abdul Karim, also a former journalist with Utusan Malaysia in the 1980s, described the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA contribution as a significant gesture of appreciation for “veterans” like him.
“I haven’t been doing any other jobs since I completely stopped in 2016. My health is also deteriorating, and my memory is fading as well,” said the father of four.
So far, 478 media practitioners nationwide have received benefits from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA.
