1. LAO MEDIA INDUSTRY MARKS 75TH ANNIVERSARY -- VIENTIANE TIMES

Lao media is celebrating its 75th anniversary by hosting a Mass Media and Publishing Day Exhibition in Vientiane from August 11 to 12. The event is showcasing the history and innovations of the country’s media and publishing industry.

 

2. SOUTH KOREA’S RM25 MILLION FOR CLEAN WATER -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

South Korea will provide a grant of RM25 million (US$6 million)  to upgrade the water supply system in Bolikhamxay province. The project, from 2025 to 2029, aims to ensure sustainable access to clean water and sanitation in Bolikhamxay.

1. LATE MYANMAR PRESIDENT LAID TO REST -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

A state-level funeral service was held for the late Myanmar  Pro Tem President U Myint Swe yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw. He passed away on August 7 at the age of 74 due to illness. 

 

2. PRAWN PRICES RISE IN LOCAL MARKETS --  THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

Prices of prawns have risen due to rising demand and supply shortages. The fishing season was interrupted due to rough seas and flooded prawn farms affected production. Sea prawns such as tiger, flower, white and gold prawns are much costlier now.

Marcos Jr.’s directive.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is looking to bring back the online registration system (e-registration) once they resume voters’ sign-up.

1. SINGAPORE RAISES 2025 ECONOMIC GROWTH FORECAST BUT WARNS OF UNCERTAINTY FROM US TARIFFS -- THE STRAITS TIMES

Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) raised its 2025 economic growth forecast on a better-than-expected first half year performance, but warned that the outlook remains clouded by uncertainty over the potential impact of US tariffs - with risks to the economy still tilted to the downside.

 

2. SINGAPORE UPGRADES 2025 GDP GROWTH FORECAST TO 1.5-2.5 PCT; ECONOMY GREW 4.4 PCT IN Q2 -- CNA

The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) has upgraded Singapore's gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast for the year to 1.5 per cent to 2.5 per cent, up from 0 per cent to 2 per cent previously.

The Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park in central Quang Tri province has recorded a large number of endangered species listed in Vietnam's Red Data Book. Researchers discovered 64 rare species through camera traps, and 38 are classified as endangered.
