11/08/2025 07:32 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is committed to shaping an innovation-driven future that is inclusive, sustainable, and powered by talent and creativity, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

He said Expo 2025 Osaka in Japan is a strategic platform to strengthen collaborative networks, particularly between Malaysia and Japan, towards developing a collective digital future.

Gobind said this in his speech for the launch of Digital Ministry Week at the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, which runs from Aug 11 to 15 in conjunction with the 18th week of the exhibition.

Themed "Weaving a Future in Harmony", Digital Ministry Week was officiated online by Gobind.

The ministry’s official participation is led by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to showcase the country’s capabilities and potential in the creative technology sector, covering animation, digital games, immersive technology, and the development of original content based on local intellectual property (IP).

The event also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Unbound and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to strengthen digital literacy and youth development through artificial intelligence (AI) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as well as gamified learning using augmented reality (AR) technology.

The initiative also covers policy research and AI ethics, supported by the Securities Commission Malaysia and the Ministry of Finance.

Throughout the week, 14 local creative digital companies will be featured through exhibitions and interactive activities such as game and animation demonstrations, virtual reality experiences, mascot parades, “pocket talk” segments, and business matching sessions.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to try the digital game No Straight Roads, created by local company Metronomik, which is now collaborating with renowned Japanese publisher Shueisha Games to develop No Straight Roads 2.

This collaboration continues the development of local IP, proving the potential of Malaysia’s creative content on the global stage.

Malaysia’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka serves as an international platform to showcase the country’s digital ecosystem capabilities, highlight local content creator talent, expand strategic collaboration networks, and boost investment potential that contributes to digital economy growth.

It also enhances the country’s visibility as a leader in digital transformation in Southeast Asia, aiming to achieve its aspiration of becoming the region’s leading digital industry hub.

The Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, which runs from April 13 to Oct 13, 2025, serves as an international stage to present the country’s economic strengths, technological capabilities, and cultural identity.

Over the six-month exhibition, it targets RM13 billion in investments, with the participation of 21 federal ministries and about 70 government departments and agencies, making it a comprehensive collaborative effort to strengthen Malaysia’s position on the world stage.
