MOSCOW, Aug 6 (Bernama-TASS) -- His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, has expressed his gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin for inviting him to visit Russia, TASS news agency reported.

“I want to thank you for the reception. It is a great honour for me to meet with you in Moscow.

“I’ve always dreamed of meeting you. I would like to sincerely thank you for the invitation,” Sultan Ibrahim told Putin during their meeting at the Kremlin.

Sultan Ibrahim also praised Putin’s leadership, saying the Russian president had led the country “through trying, difficult times” and demonstrated “vision and resilience” as a strong leader.

This marks the first visit by a Malaysian head of state to Russia since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1967.

Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy in which the King is elected for a five-year term from among the rulers of nine Malay states.

Sultan Ibrahim of the southern Malaysian state of Johor ascended to the throne in 2024.
