Geo Alam, SIEE, CBMI Ink MoU To Introduce Waste Management Solutions In Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- Geo Alam Environmental Sdn Bhd (Geo Alam), a subsidiary of YTL Cement Group, has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sinoma International Environment Engineering Co Ltd (SIEE) and CBMI Construction Co Ltd (CBMI), to introduce advanced waste management solutions in Malaysia.

Geo Alam, in a statement, said the strategic collaboration seeks to reduce the country’s reliance on landfills and support decarbonisation efforts by converting waste into alternative fuels for industrial use.

According to Geo Alam, under the MoU, all parties would jointly develop, invest in and operate integrated waste management facilities across Malaysia.

“These facilities will process a wide range of waste streams, including municipal and industrial waste, hazardous materials, and construction and demolition waste.

“Depending on suitability, the processed output may serve as alternative fuel or as alternative raw materials for use in industries such as cement manufacturing,” it said.

Geo Alam said that by providing sustainable and locally integrated solutions, the partnership seeks to assist government agencies, industry stakeholders, and third-party waste managers in achieving environmental goals, reducing emissions, and promoting Malaysia’s circular economy objectives.

According to the company, the partnership brings together complementary strengths, with Geo Alam contributing strong local capabilities and regulatory expertise, while SIEE and CBMI bring over six decades of experience in environmental and cement-related technologies.

“Collectively, the partners have managed more than 10 million tons of municipal solid waste, commercial and industrial wastes and hazardous materials across large-scale projects worldwide, underscoring a deep operational track record that goes beyond technological solutions,” it said.

Geo Alam Operations director Clarisse Loh was quoted as saying that landfill growth is a critical issue requiring urgent and joint action, as unmanaged waste could endanger both the environment and public health.

“This partnership represents a meaningful step forward. By combining our local insight with SIEE and CBMI’s technical expertise, we aim to deliver practical, scalable solutions for sustainable waste management in Malaysia,” she said.

Meanwhile, SIEE Vice President Zhao Danhui, in the same statement, expressed pleasure in partnering with Geo Alam and CBMI to support Malaysia’s shift towards sustainable waste management, stating that the collaboration reflects its commitment to delivering proven and advanced environmental technologies tailored to local needs.

On the other hand, CBMI’s Malaysia Operations Managing Director, Ma Jingwei, said that as an established EPC provider committed to decarbonisation through innovation, they believe this joint effort would deliver practical and future-ready waste‑to‑fuel and waste‑to‑material solutions.
