KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 (Bernama) -- The national takaful protection scheme, mySalam, managed by Great Eastern Takaful Berhad (GETB), has expanded its 3K Carnival: Finance, Health, and Welfare coverage to Pulau Bum Bum in Semporna, Sabah.

In a statement, GETB said the island is home to over 3,000 residents who have long faced challenges, including limited infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, and a lack of financial literacy.

Head of mySalam Protection Scheme, Syuhaib Ithnin, said the 3K Carnival in Pulau Bum Bum also aimed at raising awareness and providing direct and continuous access to protection, knowledge, and opportunities.

“What we witnessed in Pulau Bum Bum was a community ready to receive support and embrace positive change, and we are honoured to stand firmly alongside them.

“We want every Malaysian, regardless of their demographic background or location, to know that they are heard, supported and protected,” he said.

The one-day event featured activities centred around three pillars, namely finance, health, and welfare.

The locals were invited to participate in interactive financial education sessions and receive on-site advisory services.

Residents also celebrated the unveiling of the new signboard for Sekolah Kebangsaan Balimbang and participated in an environmental awareness briefing aimed at promoting healthier and more sustainable lifestyle habits.

According to GETB, the carnival also focused on health and welfare, with students receiving new school bags and 700 families getting Bakul Rezeki, which contained essential food items. Free health screenings were also provided for the residents.

The carnival, organised in collaboration with the Financial Education Network (FEN), the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA), and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Sedulur, also featured traditional games, a contest to create items using recycled materials, a special outreach programme via boat to deliver aid to nearby water villages, and a lucky draw.

Since its launch, mySalam has benefited over 1.7 million Malaysians, disbursing more than RM1.2 billion in claims.

mySalam’s hybrid outreach approach has recorded over 330 physical sessions and 1,865 TikTok Live sessions, garnering 7.47 million views as of May this year, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind, whether digitally or physically.
