KOTA KINABALU, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- The efforts and commitment of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the government have borne fruit and earned widespread praise following the successful release of 23 Malaysian volunteers from the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) who were detained by the Zionist regime.

Sabah Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) president Mohd Zikri Zainudin said that although Malaysia has no diplomatic ties with Israel, the Prime Minister had worked tirelessly to ensure the release of all Malaysian volunteers.

He said Malaysia maintains relations with countries that have diplomatic ties with Israel, such as Turkiye, Egypt and the United States, and through the diplomatic efforts of the Prime Minister and the government, this reflects Malaysia’s recognition as a nation with strong diplomatic capabilities and a peacemaker in times of crisis.

“The close Malaysia-Turkiye ties also played a crucial role in facilitating the release of the GSF volunteers. Our appreciation and thanks go to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his significant assistance in securing their freedom,” he told Bernama when contacted.

He said the GSF volunteers, who also represent Sumud Nusantara, carry the voices of Malaysians who want to see humanitarian aid delivered to the people of Gaza, who are facing starvation as a result of Israel’s blockade on food, medicine and other essential supplies.

A resident of Bandar Sri Indah Phase 3, Tan Piang Ho, 60, said the government’s efforts under the leadership of Anwar to ensure the safety and return of the 23 GSF volunteers reflected its concern and efficiency in handling international crises.

“Thank you, PMX, and to all Malaysians who continue to stand in solidarity. The efforts of these 23 volunteers have brought hope to the people of Gaza who are enduring great hardship due to the ongoing conflict,” Tan said.

For Taman Kinabutan Ria resident Hamzah Sainudin, 42, the Prime Minister’s consistent actions have succeeded in ensuring the safe return of the GSF volunteers to Malaysia, demonstrating his firm commitment to protecting the people.

“The MADANI government has not only managed domestic affairs effectively but has also played an active role in addressing global issues related to humanity and international diplomacy,” he said.

He also expressed his appreciation for the courage and humanitarian spirit shown by the Malaysian volunteers in defending the plight of the Palestinian people suffering under Israel’s prolonged atrocities.

Last Thursday, 23 Malaysian volunteers participating in the GSF mission were detained by the Zionist regime after their vessel was intercepted in the waters of the R3 Red Zone in the Mediterranean Sea before being taken to the port of Ashdod, Israel.

However, through the efforts of the Prime Minister, all the volunteers were released and departed from Ramon Airport, Israel, at 6.45 pm Malaysian time yesterday, arriving in Istanbul at 8.40 pm Malaysian time.
