IPOH, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- More than 5,000 visitors from home and abroad are expected to visit the Perak Ceramic Art Festival 2025 at the Artworks Hotel here from Oct 9-12.
Perak Ceramic Art Association (Persera) chairman Mohd Shukri Hashim said the main objective of the festival is not just about bringing together local artists but also opening up a space for collaboration with international potters from Indonesia and China.
“During the four-day event, at least 50 local ceramic works will be on exhibit. There will also be ceramic-making workshops and dialogue sessions with experts, curators and heritage researchers.
"This festival is also a platform to generate income through product sales, in addition to producing a complete documentation on Perak ceramic art," he told a press conference at the hotel today.
The festival, themed "Heritage Creates Inspiration, Builds MADANI Identity", is jointly organised by Persera and Artworks Hotel Sdn Bhd, with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), Tourism Perak, UiTM Perak Branch, Kraftangan Malaysia, the National Department of Culture and Arts (JKKN) and several other agencies.
Mohd Shukri said the festival, which is based on the concept of an 'art village', will provide opportunities and exposure to the community ín ceramic art through hands-on activities, demonstrations, folk games and cultural performances.
"There will also be 15 educational booths and workshops on ceramics, involving 110 participants from various institutions, including kindergartens, secondary schools, tahfiz centres, as well as senior citizens,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Mohd Khairi Baharom, the senior lecturer of the Faculty of Art and Design at UiTM Perak Branch, said the highlight of the festival will be the Perak Ceramic Art Symposium (PECAS) 2025 on Oct 10-11.
"A total of 30 artworks and papers will be presented, each with the theme 'Perak Ceramic Heritage in a Global Context and Innovation' and 'Future of the Local Ceramic Industry'.
"The panel consists of local and international experts who will discuss current issues and the direction of the ceramic industry," Mohd Khairi said.
