Widespread Condemnation In Malaysia Over Israel’s Interception Of GSF

02/10/2025 01:05 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- The Israeli regime’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian convoy to Gaza early this morning has continued to spark condemnation from Malaysians, including state leaders who voiced solidarity with the activists on board, among them several Malaysians.

In TERENGGANU, the state government urged Malaysians to continue praying for the safety of all GSF activists, including two of its own natives - Nurfarahin Romli, better known as Farah Lee, and Rusydi Ramli - who are among those detained by the Israeli regime.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the Israeli regime’s actions were not only inhumane, but also a blatant violation of human rights principles and international law, while denying the Palestinian people their right to receive humanitarian aid.

“This cruel act once again reflects the arrogant attitude of the Zionist regime towards international law.

“I urge all Malaysians to continue praying for the safety of the detained activists and for the remaining vessels still en route to Gaza, so that they may safely deliver aid to the suffering Palestinians,” he said in a statement today.

In MELAKA, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh also condemned Israel’s actions and urged the federal government to prioritise the protection and safety of Malaysians involved in the flotilla.

He outlined three immediate steps that should be taken - ensuring that security and consular information is disseminated without delay and seeking security guarantees through international channels such as the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU) and diplomatic partners.

“Thirdly, pressing for an international investigation into any actions that threaten peaceful humanitarian missions, while upholding the fundamental rights and protection of civilians and volunteers,” he said in a Facebook post today.

In PAHANG, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail also urged the people of the state to pray for the safety and well-being of Malaysians participating in the GSF mission.

“We continuously pray that all efforts to assist our brothers and sisters in faith will be granted protection by Allah SWT,” he said after officiating the Pahang 1st Form 6 Aspiration seminar at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Silver Jubilee Hall in Kuantan today.

In SELANGOR, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari also strongly condemned the Israeli military’s interception of the GSF volunteer vessels.

“I strongly condemn this despicable act and urge for the immediate release of all detained volunteers,” he said in a Facebook post.

As of 7.50 am Malaysian time today, 12 Malaysians have been confirmed detained by Israeli forces after their ships entered the R3 red zone, about 100 nautical miles from Gaza, last night.
