PUTRAJAYA, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) continues to strengthen its role in promoting digital entrepreneurs through various initiatives, including the Business Digitalisation Programme 2025 (PPP25), aimed at empowering entrepreneurs in utilising digital technology.
Its deputy minister, Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said in addition to the development initiative, KPDN also continuously monitors e-commerce platforms, social media, and websites to detect fake advertisements, suspicious offers and counterfeit products.
“We are aware that digital entrepreneurs face issues such as blatant counterfeiting of goods sold on e-commerce platforms, leading to low-quality counterfeit goods flooding the local market. Therefore, KPDN will continue to play its role as a protector of consumers and legitimate entrepreneurs from unfair competition," she said in a statement today.
She said this after attending a meeting with a delegation from the Malaysian digital community led by Syed Gaddafi Syed Saifuddin here today.
According to Fuziah, enforcement actions will continue to be carried out under several acts, including the Consumer Protection Act 1999, the Companies Act 2016, the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, and the Trademarks Act 2019.
Additionally, KPDN is also monitoring the prices of goods on e-commerce platforms to prevent price manipulation, as well as managing complaints through the eAduan KPDN, which can be made by consumers and traders.
The main goal, he clarified, is to empower entrepreneurs, especially those involved in online businesses, through advisory services, trademark registration and intellectual property protection.
KPDN is committed to assisting with the complaint process if their products are counterfeited, as enforcement officers have the authority to take down advertisements for counterfeit goods, provided the product owner files the complaint themselves.
"At the same time, we are trying to expedite the trademark registration process at MyIPO to a period of four months, in addition to advocating for consumers to prioritise locally made goods," he said.
He also said the effort was important to ensure healthy competition in the industry, thus guaranteeing consumers access to quality, safe products at reasonable prices.
By July 31, 2025, there were an estimated 4.65 million Malaysian entrepreneurs or sellers operating on major e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop, with 95 per cent of them being local digital entrepreneurs.
