NEW DELHI, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Pakistan on Friday thanked Malaysia for offering aid following the massive floods the country has suffered in this monsoon season.
"Deeply appreciate the government and people of Malaysia for generous gesture of extending timely support to Pakistan's ongoing flood relief efforts. Such climate-induced recurring disasters continue to underscore the urgent need for collective global action on climate change," Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a social media post.
Malaysian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are also participating in Pakistan's flood-relief efforts.
Representatives of Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (MAPIM) on Thursday shared details of their relief work with High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad counsellor, Mohd Syafik Firdaus.
Syafik expressed hope that more Malaysian NGOs would come forward to provide humanitarian assistance to the flood-affected communities in Pakistan.
The floods caused by heavy rains have affected more than five million people in Pakistan, destroyed 4,100 villages, and claimed over 1,000 lives, according to official figures.
