TUARAN, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has urged concessionaire Jetama Sdn Bhd to expand the installation of the solar-powered nano-filtration drinking water system to more interior areas.
He said the system, developed by Jetama Sdn Bhd, is very good because it can supply treated water from tube wells to areas that cannot be supplied with clean water.
"Residents of Kampung Baru-Baru have never enjoyed treated water before because this village is situated too far from the main pipes. I want to thank Jetama for installing this facility here,” he said after visiting the facility in Kampung Baru-Baru here today.
Hajiji said the system, which uses solar energy or a battery bank for the water treatment process, is suitable for rural and interior areas, including islands in Sabah.
"I have requested Jetama to consider installing this system in more interior villages,” he said.
Hajiji said that this self-powered mobile drinking water system, costing RM1.2 million, has the capacity to produce 30,000 litres of water daily, and it is equipped with sensors and controllers to monitor water quality and system performance, and can adjust operations according to needs.
"The treated water is kept in a tank and can be distributed to households through pipes or distribution systems,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hajiji said he is satisfied with the progress of work on the 20.8-kilometre-long Serusop-Pinturu road project under the Pan Bornoe Highway Project here.
"I visited the work site today and am happy that it is progressing ahead of schedule,” he said during the site visit today.
He added that construction of the RM465 million road began on Jan 20 this year and is expected to be completed on July 19, 2028.
The two-way, single-lane road connecting Tuaran and Kota Belud also covers the construction of a 682-metre-long bridge.
