Palestinian Presidency Condemns Israeli Plan for 3,400 Settlement Units in E1

RAMALLAH, Aug 21 (Bernama-WAFA) -- Palestinian Presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh has strongly condemned the approval by the Settlement Subcommittee of the Israeli occupation authorities to build 3,400 new settlement units in the E1 area, the Palestine News & Info Agency (WAFA) reported.

In a statement Wednesday, Abu Rudeineh said the plan violates international law and UN resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 2334, which affirms that all settlements are illegal, whether in the Gaza Strip or the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

He said the occupation authorities are defying the international community, which has repeatedly condemned and warned against the advancement of the plan.

He described it as a dangerous escalation that would completely sever the northern West Bank from the south.

Abu Rudeineh held the Israeli government fully responsible for the repercussions of what he called dangerous and aggressive policies, warning they could ignite the entire region.

He urged the US administration to intervene immediately to stop what he described as Israel’s all-out war against the Palestinian people, including the ongoing war in Gaza, threats of further escalation, attacks in the West Bank, rising settler violence, and assaults on Islamic and Christian holy sites.

He also called for the release of Palestinian funds withheld by Israel.
