RAUB, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- The Pahang government's projection to turn the state into a national food hub is being realised through the success of AGK Dairy Fresh Sdn Bhd which now owns more than 300 wagyu cattle.
Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the achievement makes Pahang the state with the highest number of wagyu cattle in Malaysia.
“There are currently 300 heads of Wagyu cattle. Hopefully, within two years, the number could reach 1,000 and the state government will provide support,” he said after visiting the AGK Dairy Fresh Ruminant Livestock Farm in Bukit Kajang here today.
He said the state would continue to pave the way for the wagyu farming project, including expanding it to West Pahang.
“We have been trying out breeding wagyu cattle and it suits the climate here. We started off here and in Kampung Tanjung Gahai in Kuala Lipis. I have asked the Land and Mines Office to study the feasibility of several areas in Benta and so on,” he said.
Wan Rosdy said the company also produces products such as fresh milk and cheese to increase profits.
He also encouraged the company to speed up plans to turn the livestock farm into an agro-tourism centre to attract both domestic and foreign tourists.
“People will definitely be excited if they can visit this Wagyu farm. Looking at the photos just now, people might not believe it is in Malaysia or Pahang, but think it is in Australia or another country,” he said.
