MELAKA, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- Students in the Kota Melaka parliamentary constituency, especially from B40 families, now have the opportunity to enjoy modern learning facilities and access to information technology through the newly launched Digital Library.
Kota Melaka Member of Parliament Khoo Poay Tiong said the newly launched library will make modern learning facilities more accessible to students, particularly those who previously faced difficulties in accessing information technology.
“This digital library serves as a platform for students to develop essential skills in computers, the internet, and digital applications, all of which are increasingly vital in today’s education and career landscapes.
“With its conducive learning environment, the facility will also benefit students from eight secondary schools in the Kota Melaka constituency, enabling them to explore the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM),” he told reporters today.
Earlier, Khoo opened the Kota Melaka Digital Library at the Kampung Tujuh Community Centre in Gajah Berang. The event was also attended by Kota Laksamana Assemblyman Low Chee Leong.
Khoo said the library, which can accommodate up to 100 students at a time, is equipped with free internet access, computers, learning software, and a community-friendly space that allows students to study individually or in groups at no cost.
He said plans are underway to collaborate with local IT companies to offer information technology courses, programming workshops, and various activities aimed at nurturing students’ interests and talents in the field of technology, while also enhancing relevant skills for future job opportunities.
"We hope the Melaka City Digital Library will be transformed into an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Library through collaboration with technology industry players, making it a digital knowledge hub that can empower the local community," he said.
