MRL Contributes To SK Sri Kiambang Under MADANI Adopted School Programme

KOTA BHARU, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) has continued its commitment to community development along the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project by contributing to Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Kiambang in Kampung Repek, Pasir Mas.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, who is also MRL chairman, said SK Sri Kiambang is among five schools in the East Coast states adopted by the company.

"The MADANI Adopted School Programme with ECRL is part of MRL’s corporate social responsibility initiative to support the educational development and welfare of the school community.

"This initiative is also in line with the aspirations of the federal government through the MADANI Adopted School Programme, which encourages the involvement of government-linked companies, government-linked investment companies and the private sector in assisting schools nationwide," he said in a statement.

He handed over an initial contribution cheque worth RM5,000 to SK Sri Kiambang headmaster, Noorazman Junus, at the school today.

Shamsul Azri said MRL also contributed food baskets to 50 families of asnaf pupils from the school.

"MRL hopes the assistance will directly benefit the pupils and strengthen education in rural areas, while fostering good relations with the local community, especially those located near the 665-kilometre ECRL alignment," he said.

Meanwhile, in another development, he said construction works for the ECRL project in Kelantan are progressing smoothly and had reached 91.22 per cent completion as of last month.
