KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- The Rumah Ngaji programme, initiated by the Yayasan Warisan Ummah Ikhlas (YWUI), has evolved into a grassroots movement, dedicated to nurturing a love for the Quran as the foundation for personal and societal development.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, said that the programme, which has been running for over a decade, has attracted the participation of numerous volunteers, who contribute their time and effort out of devotion to the Quran, without receiving any payment.

“Congratulations and well done to all Rumah Ngaji activists, from the north, south, east coast, to Sabah and Sarawak, including those in educational institutions, mosques, community halls, their own homes, even in small rooms or yards. Though their spaces may be small, their souls are great.

Mohd Na’im said this at the closing ceremony of the Rumah Ngaji Malaysia 1.0 Convention, held at the Federal Territory Mosque, today.

He added that the Quranic contemplation (tadabbur) approach, introduced by YWUI, goes beyond mere reading or translation, as it encourages a deeper appreciation and understanding of each verse to be applied in daily life.

About 1,000 participants from across the country began arriving as early as 7 am to take part in the programme, which featured a scholarly discourse session, and culminated in the announcement of Dr Sharifah Mastura Syed Mohamad, the promoter of Rumah Ngaji ALA Kubang Golok, Bachok, Kelantan, as the Tokoh Rumah Ngaji 2025.

Sharifah Mastura founded Rumah Ngaji ALA in 2018, with the aim of providing free Quranic learning opportunities for wives of local fishermen and farmers, empowering them through spiritual and educational development.

When met by Bernama, Sharifah Mastura said that her selection as Tokoh Rumah Ngaji 2025 was a recognition not just for herself, but for all members of the Kelantan Rumah Ngaji Association, who have worked together to promote the Quran.

“More and more people are joining this programme, especially with the involvement and support of the government. Indirectly, it opens the eyes of the Malaysians to take part in the Rumah Ngaji movement,” said the mother of seven.
