Ab Rahaman Arsad Appointed As New Johor Police Chief

JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- Bukit Aman deputy director of management (services/staffing) Comm Ab Rahaman Arsad, has been appointed as the new Johor police chief, effective today.

He takes over from Datuk M. Kumar, who now serves as the director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The handover-of-duties ceremony was held at the Johor police contingent, witnessed by Bukit Aman Management Department director Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid.

A rank-pinning ceremony, officiated by Abdul Aziz, was also held during the event to mark Ab Rahaman’s promotion to Commissioner of Police.

In his speech, Abdul Aziz extended his appreciation to Kumar for more than 18 years of dedicated and exemplary service in Johor, while expressing confidence that Ab Rahaman would continue to lead the state police force with distinction.

“I am confident that Ab Rahaman is the right candidate to lead the Johor police force and we at Bukit Aman have high expectations of his capabilities. That is our hope,” he said.

Ab Rahaman, 58, who hails from Kulai, began his policing career in 1989 and has previously served as the head of the management department in the Negri Sembilan and Kedah police contingents.

Meanwhile, Kumar, 56, who joined the force on Dec 1, 1991, and served in several key positions, including as deputy Johor police chief, expressed confidence in his successor’s capabilities.

“I would like to express my appreciation to all personnel at the Johor police contingent, the state government leadership, enforcement agencies, non-governmental organisations, and media practitioners for their strong support throughout my service in Johor,” he said.

Also held during the ceremony was the handover of the Johor Contingent’s Police Family Association (Perkep) chairman post from SP Shanthi to Salwah Mahdan, witnessed by Bukit Aman Management Department Perkep chairperson Datin Seri Selmiah Tuan Ibrahim.
