KOTA KINABALU, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- The integrated maintenance work at the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT), initially scheduled to begin on Tuesday, has been postponed to a date to be announced later, said Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid.
He said the postponement was made after taking into account the current condition of the Sabah electricity grid and the independent power producers (IPPs) involved.
He said the move was also aimed at ensuring that electricity supply rationing would not affect consumers in Sabah and Labuan.
“It also takes into account the additional time needed to complete testing on several IPP power units in Kimanis using alternative diesel fuel, as well as ongoing repair works at other power plants owned by Sabah Electricity (SE) and IPPs,” he said in a statement today.
Abdul Nasser explained that the decision was made after assessing the risk of disruption to the electricity grid and the potential impact of postponing the maintenance work at SOGT.
SE had earlier informed SOGT of its plan to carry out integrated maintenance from Aug 1 to 7, which was later rescheduled to Aug 5 to 11, and has now been postponed to a date to be announced later.
According to SE, load shedding was expected to take place in Sabah and Labuan after the maintenance work, potentially affecting more than 600,000 households.
