KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- Wan Arif Wan Junaidi and Yap Roy King produced a magnificent display to stun top seeds and world number eight Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani to clinch the men's doubles title at the Macau Open today.
The Malaysians, ranked 24th in the world, had to slog for nearly one hour and 20 minutes to subdue the Indonesians 22-20, 21-18 at the East Asian Games Dome for their first Badminton World Federation (BWF) Tour Super 300 title.
The victory, which saw Wan Arif-Roy King take home USD29,230, also allowed them to snap a three-match losing streak to the Indonesians, who pocketed USD14,060 as runners-up.
There was no such luck for Malaysia's professional mixed doubles pair of Jimmy Wong-Lai Pei Jing as they went down 13-21, 16-21 to Denmark's Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje in the final.
Earlier, Malaysia's Justin Hoh failed to bag his maiden BWF Tour title when he lost 15-21, 5-21 to Indonesian fifth seed Alwi Farhan in the men's singles final.
It was, however, his best achievement this season, having suffered early exits in nine of the 10 tournaments he played in.
