Gua Musang Floods: 70 Felda Chiku Residents Evacuated To Relief Centres

KOTA BHARU, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- About 70 residents from Felda Chiku 1 and 2, Gua Musang  have been evacuated to relief centres tonight due to floods following heavy rain since this afternoon.

Kelantan Civil Defence Force (CDF) director Mohd Adzhar Mujab said they received a report about flooding in the settlements at about 6 pm and ordered the immediate evacuation as a safety measure but said the situation was not concerning and advised residents not to linger or play in at-risk areas.

“If conditions improve, the evacuees can return home tomorrow,” he told Bernama today.

According to residents, over 50 houses in the area have been flooded as night fell, and resident Razali Daud, 73, said that his kitchen was flooded after an hour and a half of heavy downpour.

“Water started flooding my kitchen at about 6.30 pm and it is still rising as the rain has yet to stop. This situation has never happened previously and even if it rained heavily for a long time, my house was never flooded,” he shared.

Fellow resident Shamsaziela Mohd Ghazali, 35, who is currently in a relief centre, said she along with 30 family members were evacuated to Dewan Chiku 2 at about 8.30 pm.

“Before leaving the house, water at the front had already reached our waists. We could only save our important documents,” she added.
