KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- Police are investigating three cases involving video content that have gone viral on the TikTok application that contained incitement, sedition and hostility, as well as imitating royal ceremonial traditions.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said that the investigations are being carried out by Bukit Aman's Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT).

He said the first case involves a former civil servant who used his TikTok account to make comments containing incitement and insults against the government and its leaders.

"The second case, meanwhile, involves a man who used his TikTok account to upload a post questioning the government's handling of the recent incident in Kampung Sungai Baru, which could incite hostility between groups in the country.

"The third case involves a viral video clip depicting a family dressed entirely in yellow and wearing traditional headgear resembling royal family ceremonial attire during an akikah ceremony, which is believed to misuse royal symbols,” he said.

Kumar said the cases are being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948; Section 505(b) of the Penal Code; Section 505(c) of the Penal Code; Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998; and Section 3(1) of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963.

He stressed that all three cases involved the misuse of social media that can incite sedition, insult, and hostility within the public.

"A thorough investigation will be carried out and strict action will be taken against those involved.

"The public is advised to be prudent and responsible in making any statements or content in public spaces and social media,” he added.
