PUTRAJAYA, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof will lead Malaysia’s official delegation on a working visit to China from today until Sept 22.
The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) said Fadillah will attend the 22nd China–ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) in Nanning, Guangxi, a prestigious regional trade and investment platform that brings together ASEAN and Chinese leaders.
According to PETRA, Malaysia’s participation in CAEXPO 2025 will further strengthen the country’s role as coordinator of ASEAN–China Dialogue Relations (2024–2027), while opening new opportunities for cooperation in strategic investment, regional infrastructure development, smart cities and green technology innovation.
In a statement today, PETRA said Fadillah is also scheduled to hold a high-level meeting with China’s vice premier Liu Guozhong, who oversees the Ministry of Water Resources.
The meeting will focus on strategic cooperation in water management, including technology exchange, capacity building and sustainable initiatives that can deliver long-term benefits for both countries.
PETRA said the official visit will also cover Beijing and Chongqing, with emphasis on renewable energy, energy storage systems, next-generation nuclear technology, and innovative water management approaches such as the Sponge City model for flood mitigation and climate adaptation.
It will also highlight reclaimed water systems as alternative industrial resources, underground plant development and biogas energy generation.
According to PETRA, Malaysia aims to leverage China’s expertise and experience in these fields to strengthen national agendas, including the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the 2040 Water Transformation Plan (AIR 2040) for long-term water and energy security.
In line with China’s position as Malaysia’s largest trading partner, PETRA said the visit is expected to attract high-impact investments in clean energy and green technology, while enhancing Malaysia’s economic competitiveness.
The ministry added that consistent with the Malaysia MADANI vision, the visit also reflects the country’s commitment to play a bigger role in ASEAN–China cooperation frameworks and to position Malaysia as a proactive, inclusive and resilient strategic partner at both regional and global levels.
