PUTRAJAYA, Sept 15 (Bernama) – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) continues to strengthen efforts to ensure disaster victims in Sabah remain connected through the provision of MCMC PRIME emergency communication facilities and community Internet services at the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI), the commission said in a statement today.
MCMC PRIME, a mobile vehicle equipped with communication support, has been deployed to Kampung Cendrakasih and Penampang to assist rescue teams and support infrastructure restoration works by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB).
At the same time, a total of 131 NADI centres have been activated to provide Internet access for affected communities, enabling them to stay connected with families and authorities.
To date, a total of 266 telecommunication towers have been affected by power disruptions. Of this number, more than half, or 147 towers, have resumed operations, with restoration works being actively carried out in stages in collaboration with telecommunication companies.
MCMC has also set up a Task Force with telecommunication companies and SESB to monitor the situation on affected sites.
Regular meetings focus on coordinating the restoration of collector sites (main sites controlling communication coverage in surrounding areas) and other critical sites identified as key targets, as well as ensuring the provision of temporary power supply via generators to expedite the recovery of communication services.
“MCMC will continue to cooperate with rescue agencies, telecommunication companies, and both state and federal authorities to ensure communication and Internet access in affected areas can be restored promptly for the safety and well-being of the people of Sabah,” the statement said.
