KOTA KINABALU, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has called on the people to continue embracing the true meaning of Malaysia Day and celebrate it with a spirit of patriotism and deep love for the country.
In his Malaysia Day address here tonight, he urged that unity and harmony among the multiracial and multi-religious citizens of this blessed land to be preserved and sustained.
Hajiji stated that Sept 16 is a sacred date that marks the formation of Malaysia, which established the country as sovereign and independent and terefore, Malaysians must always remember this historic day.
"The formation of Malaysia has brought many blessings and benefits to all layers of society in this country. However, the journey of nation-building is still long, filled with challenges and obstacles that must be faced," he said.
He stressed that only with unity, togetherness and solidarity in the interest of the homeland can all these challenges be overcome.
In this regard, the Chief Minister invited all Malaysians to appreciate this year's Malaysia Day theme, "Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni", which reflects the government's concern and commitment to the welfare of the people based on the principles of Malaysia MADANI.
Hajiji added that the theme also aligns with the 'Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya' which emphasises the well-being of the people, justice, unity and equitable development for all segments of society.
