KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has unveiled the Strategic Communications and Multimedia Technology Roadmap 2025-2030 (MyTMAP2030), which will serve as the nation’s blueprint for advancing the communications and multimedia sector over the next five years.
MCMC highlighted that the roadmap, launched during the ITU-MCMC Bridging the Standardisation Gap (BSG) Workshop on AI (Artificial Intelligence) Standards and Governance in Kuala Lumpur, is designed to harness emerging technologies, drive innovation and accelerate nationwide digital adoption.
“AI standards and governance are the foundations of trust, cooperation and inclusivity in our digital future. Through this workshop and the launch of MyTMAP2030, Malaysia reaffirms its commitment to building responsible, ethical and impactful AI for the region and beyond,” MCMC said in a statement today.
MCMC also said that the ITU-MCMC BSG Workshop, held from Tuesday until today, brings together policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and experts from across the Asia-Pacific region to enhance collaboration on AI standards, governance, and digital transformation.
“The workshop opens with a high-level panel on AI Standards and Governance, featuring ITU, Department of Standards Malaysia and industry experts, offering insights on evolving AI landscapes, governance frameworks and best practices.
“Participants will benefit from capacity-building sessions on ITU’s AI-related activities, standardisation, and the BSG programme, alongside an Innovation Café and case studies exploring AI applications supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals,” read the statement.
Meanwhile, ITU Telecommunication Standardisation Bureau director Seizo Onoe thanked Malaysia for its commitment to advancing digital development both nationally and across Asia-Pacific.
Echoing this, ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau director Dr Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava said the collaboration demonstrates ITU’s commitment to boosting AI capacity, bridging standardisation gaps, and promoting inclusive digital ecosystems in the Asia Pacific.
“We are grateful to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan for their generous support and the commitment from our regional partners, including MCMC.
“This workshop will go a long way in ensuring that the benefits of AI are widely shared, helping to strengthen the telecommunications and ICT sectors across the Asia Pacific,” he said.
MCMC noted that the collaboration is supported as an initiative to build continuous development in the realm of AI and beyond.
