PM Anwar Honoured With Global Islamic Finance Leadership Award 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was honoured with the Global Islamic Finance Leadership Award 2025 today in recognition of his pivotal role in advancing Islamic finance.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, in receiving the award, said the honour was not for him alone but for those working tirelessly behind the scenes, sacrificing their time and energy to ensure the growth of the Islamic finance industry.

“I believe this award goes to all of them. I am just a mini representative to all the movers who have served far more reliably and meaningfully than I have,” he said.

The prestigious award was presented by the Chairman of the Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA) 2025, Prof Humayon Dar.

The GIFA Award is a prestigious label of excellence that recognises governments, institutions and individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in their respective fields, contributing to the sustainability of Islamic banking and finance as a viable system within the global financial architecture.

Founded in 2011 by Edbiz Corporation as part of its advocacy for Islamic banking and finance, GIFA celebrates the achievements of individuals, institutions and governments in promoting and advancing Islamic banking and finance, and ensuring that it remains committed to social responsibility.

Earlier in his GIFA Laureate speech, Anwar said that Islamic finance must continue to play a central role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while nurturing the next generation of ethical leaders.

He stressed that the success of Islamic finance should be measured not only by the size of its assets but also by its ability to transform lives and secure the future.

Also present at the event were the Prime Minister’s wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.
