MELAKA, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today held a bilateral meeting with Vietnam’s Minister of Public Security, General Luong Tam Quang, on the sidelines of the 19th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (19th AMMTC) here.
In a statement, the Home Ministry (KDN) said both parties focused on strengthening security cooperation through a Cross-Border Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Malaysia and Vietnam, particularly in the area of cybersecurity.
“Malaysia also said that it is currently in the process of acceding to the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime and will officially sign the United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime in Hanoi this October,” the statement said.
Also present at the meeting were KDN secretary-general Datuk Awang Alik Jeman; Undersecretary of the Security Division Datuk Zulkifli Abidin; Undersecretary of the International Division Mohd Azlan Razali; and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) deputy director-general Datuk Saiful Lizan Ibrahim.
The Vietnamese delegation included Foreign Relations Department director-general (DG) Lt Gen Dang Xuan Hong; and Criminal Police Department DG Lt Gen Tran Ngoc Ha and Chief of Investigation Maj Gen Tran Minh Tien.
KDN said Quang also extended an official invitation to Saifuddin Nasution to visit Vietnam in October to further strengthen the longstanding bilateral ties between the two countries.
Melaka has become the regional hub as ASEAN ministers and senior officials responsible for security and crime prevention gather from Sept 8 to 12 for the 19th AMMTC and related meetings.
The event is held in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, under the theme “Inclusion and Sustainability”, reflecting the country’s commitment to building a safer and more prosperous ASEAN Community.
