JAKARTA, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Five people were still missing on Wednesday after flash floods swept through villages in Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara province, killing three and injuring two, officials said.
The disaster struck on Monday in Mauponggo district, Nagekeo regency, cutting off 18 villages from road access, electricity supply and communication networks.
“Unstable weather and huge piles of debris carried by the floods remain major challenges for search and rescue teams,” said National Disaster Management Agency spokesperson Abdul Muhari in a statement.
Local authorities have set up a temporary shelter in Mauponggo to house 30 displaced residents.
The Nagekeo Disaster Management Agency said efforts were under way to reopen access routes to isolated communities as emergency operations entered their third day.
