KUALA NERUS, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- Since 2017, the Terengganu Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) has adopted 37 children, aged four to 17, to safeguard their education, welfare and overall well-being.
State director Suhara Mustaffa said the initiative would continue until the children turned 17.
“Based on statistics, 25 children were adopted through the state Perkeso office, 10 through the Dungun Perkeso satellite office and another two through the Kemaman Perkeso office.
Most of the adopted children are orphans whose parents were Perkeso contributors and who receive survivor’s pension or dependents’ benefits,” she said.
Suhara was speaking to reporters after the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme with the Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim dan Miskin Darul Akhyar here today.
Commenting further, Suhara said the assistance provided includes school supplies such as uniforms, shoes, bags, and other essential equipment at the start of each school session.
“In addition, Aidilfitri preparation supplies were also provided. If they need tuition or other additional assistance, that can also be considered,” she said.
Meanwhile, Suhara said the CSR programme today involved 92 orphans, aged between nine and 17, from the Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim Darul Akhyar Terengganu.
The programme, she added, included contributions such as new ceiling fans for the organisation, as well as a career clinic conducted by the Employment Insurance System (SIP) under the Career Protection initiative.
“In addition, activities such as a communal gotong-royong cooking session with the orphans were held before sharing a meal together, as part of efforts to strengthen ties between Perkeso and the local community,” she said.
She added that the success of the programme was made possible through contributions from various parties, including the Wakalah Lembaga Zakat Selangor, Perkeso headquarters, and Perkeso employees who donated copies of the Quran and cash.
