UNIMAS Teaching Hospital Set For Completion By November 2026 - Ahmad Maslan

KOTA SAMARAHAN, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- The Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Teaching Hospital project, now in its second phase, is expected to be completed on Nov 12 next year, said Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

He said the project’s progress is currently at 66.17 per cent or three days ahead of schedule.

“The 300-bed hospital will strengthen UNIMAS’ teaching and learning ecosystem in the fields of Medicine and Health Sciences, while also providing healthcare services for residents in Samarahan, Kuching, Serian and Sri Aman divisions.

“The Works Ministry, through the Public Works Department’s (PWD) Special Project Team 2, will continue to closely monitor the project through regular engagement and inspections to ensure completion within the stipulated time, cost and quality,” he said in a statement after inspecting the site today.

The RM485.99 million project is being carried out under a design-and-build concept by Perbena Emas Sdn Bhd, with PWD’s Special Project Team 2 as the implementing agency.

Phase one of the project, involving the Prima Health Centre (PKP), was completed and handed over to the Higher Education Ministry on June 13, 2024.

The PKP serves as a daily healthcare centre for non-critical cases, with facilities including X-ray rooms, a cough clinic, an eye clinic, a warga clinic, a medical laboratory, and examination rooms.

The first phase also comprised supporting facilities such as a surau, childcare centre, cafeteria, guardhouse, mechanical and electrical building, and an elevated water tank.

Ahmad said the continuous monitoring approach is in line with the Malaysia MADANI spirit, which emphasises compassion and care for the people, enabling faster delivery of benefits to the UNIMAS community and surrounding residents.
