Cultural Silk Road Showcases Pahang Heritage, Strengthens Malaysia–Africa Ties

KUANTAN, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- The Pahang Heritage Festival and Malaysia–Africa Friendship Day 2025 were marked today with the ‘Cultural Silk Road: Threads and Values’ programme at Pulau Keladi in Pekan, featuring cultural showcases, heritage crafts and diplomatic engagement.

Tengku Ampuan of Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah graced the event at 10 am.

According to a post on the Kesultanan Pahang official Facebook page, delegates visited the Pahang Royal Weaving Centre, including the Royal Pahang Weaving Institute, Serambi Pahang, Tengku Ampuan I & II Galleries and Sarawak Pavilion, alongside handicraft demonstrations and sales.

Guests also attended a special session titled ‘Alhambra and Royal Pahang Weaving’ featuring Dr Kamree Aziz of Humanlogica. It highlighted the fusion of Moroccan Islamic architecture with the intricacy of Royal Pahang Weaving, as well as the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in fashion, heritage and education.

MARA’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), with partners Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi MARA (KKTM) Rembau, The Green Initiative Empire and Media Path Enterprise, presented a fashion show blending contemporary art with traditional heritage.

The programme also featured a luncheon and durian-tasting session, followed by an Invest Pahang presentation on cultural and heritage-linked investment opportunities.

The diplomatic delegation was led by Dean of African Heads of Mission in Malaysia and Zimbabwe’s Ambassador Constance Chemwayi.

She was joined by representatives from 19 African embassies, including Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
