KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- Deputy director-general (Research and Technology Development) of the Malaysian Nuclear Agency, Dr Muhammad Rawi Mohamed Zin, has been appointed the agency’s director-general, effective today.

He replaces Dr Rosli Darmawan, who retired on July 3.

In a statement today, the Malaysian Nuclear Agency said Muhammad Rawi’s appointment was based on his qualifications, extensive experience, and expertise in nuclear technology research.

He holds a first degree in Applied Science (Applied Physics) from Universiti Sains Malaysia, a master’s degree in Materials Engineering and Mechanics (Finite Element Method) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and a PhD in Physics (Strain Induced Crystallisation) from Keele University, England.

Muhammad Rawi has extensive experience in sealed radioisotope technology and finite element modelling for material mechanics and has held the positions of section head and reactor manager of TRIGA PUSPATI for five years.

“In addition, he has served as a member of the Nuclear Research Reactor Safety Advisory Team in the Asia-Pacific region. His research work covers neutron imaging and tomography at the TRIGA PUSPATI reactor.

“He has also conducted neutron imaging experiments at the JRR3-M research reactor in Japan, Siwabessy in Indonesia, and OPAL in Australia,” the statement said.

The Malaysian Nuclear Agency also announced the appointment of Dr Ishak Mansor as its deputy director-general (Research and Technology Development), effective today.

“With the appointment of this new leadership, the Malaysian Nuclear Agency is confident that it will continue to excel in nuclear technology research and development efficiently and effectively, in line with the nation’s aspirations,” it said.
