Mum Hopes Son's Sewage Pit Tragedy Will Not Befall Others, Calls For Urgent Improvements

SEREMBAN, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- The tragic incident involving Abdul Fattah Khairol Rizal, a nine-year-old boy who fell into an uncovered sewage pit at a school in Lenggeng, Nilai, last Saturday, should serve as a solemn reminder to urgently improve infrastructure safety in school environments.

The boy’s mother, Norfazila Md Lajin, 43, has appealed to the authorities to take immediate action, including replacing the sewage pit covers with sturdier ones and installing safety grills in high-risk areas to protect students’ safety.

“My child is gone, and I don’t want any more lives lost. I sincerely hope the authorities will promptly enhance safety measures at schools to prevent such tragedies from happening again,” she told reporters.

Describing Abdul Fattah’s personality, Norfazila said her only son among four siblings was affectionate, religiously observant, and obedient.

As a mother, she said the loss is deeply painful and the grief still lingers, especially since he was a lively and cheerful child.

Norfazila also expressed gratitude and appreciation for the support received from various parties, including the school community and the Minister of Education, Fadhlina Sidek, who visited her family.

Earlier reports confirmed that Abdul Fattah died after falling into an uncovered sewage pit during a sports event at the school last Saturday.

Yesterday, Fadhlina said the Ministry of Education, together with the Negeri Sembilan Education Department (JPNS), has taken full responsibility to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, and that further action would be taken immediately upon completion of the investigation to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.
