KPKM, MOF Resolve BUDI95 Implementation Issue For Farmers - Mohamad Sabu

TASEK GELUGOR, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) and the Ministry of Finance (MOF) have resolved the issue of implementing the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative for padi farmers and the agricultural community.

Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said concerns have been raised regarding allegations that farmers have either not received the subsidy or the amount provided was insufficient.

"Yes, we have received complaints regarding the BUDI95 issue involving padi farmers and have looked into all related aspects. The Ministry's secretary-general is coordinating the complaints. We have discussed it with MOF, and a decision has been reached.

“It will be implemented and I will provide the details later," he told reporters at the launch of the Empowerment of the Agricultural Sector in Kampung Guar Petai at the Kampung Labuh Banting flood settlement hall today.

He was commenting on media reports which suggested that the government's BUDI95 initiative, a targeted subsidy for RON95 petrol, does not reflect the real-life circumstances of padi farmers.

Previously, Kota Siputeh assemblyman, Mohd Ashraf Mustaqim Badrul Munir, had raised concerns about the implementation of the subsidy for farmers.

He was reported as saying that while BUDI95 is intended to target subsidies for vehicle owners, it fails to address the specific needs of padi farmers, who rely heavily on fuel for their farming operations.

In his capacity as coordinator of the Movement Against the Oppression of Farmers (Gempita), he proposed that padi farmers be provided with a dedicated petrol card to ensure they receive direct and targeted access to fuel subsidies based on their actual needs.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently announced that under the BUDI95 initiative, all Malaysian citizens, regardless of income level, will enjoy a subsidised price of RM1.99 per litre for RON95 petrol, reduced from RM2.05, effective Sept 30.

For non-citizens, the price will be RM2.60 from the same date.
