KANGAR, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- The Kembara Bahasa Menjulang Budaya programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampong Salang serves as a platform to strengthen unity and foster regional ties between Malaysian and Thai students, allowing them to learn about each other’s cultures and ways of life, said the Ministry of National Unity.
The ministry’s secretary-general, Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid, said the three-day cultural exchange programme, which kicked off on Friday, involved 150 Rukun Negara Club students from SK Kampong Salang, 25 students each from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil Kangar and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Hwa Aik, Arau, as well as 40 students and 30 teachers from Bankhun School in Satun, Thailand.
“Programmes like this are crucial as they create opportunities to understand each other’s cultures, traditions, languages, and ways of life. Differences are not a dividing gap, but rather a bridge that unites us through mutual respect and understanding.
“I am confident that the students will not only gain new knowledge and experiences, but also have the opportunity to foster values of unity, tolerance, and international camaraderie,” she said while officiating the programme at SK Kampong Salang here last night.
Haslina said the initiative also aligns with Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair this year, while strengthening bilateral ties with Thailand in the areas of education, culture, and regional unity.
Speaking to reporters after officiating the programme, she said the National Unity Ministry remains committed to strengthening Rukun Negara initiatives in schools, higher education institutions, and communities to nurture a knowledgeable, disciplined, and responsible generation.
“The values of the five Rukun Negara principles should be embraced not only in official club activities but also in daily life. They help build a society that respects one another, works together, and stays united,” she added.
