JAKARTA, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- More than 2.6 million Indonesians have chosen Malaysia as their holiday destinations up to July this year, said Malaysia’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin.

Syed Mohamad Hasrin said Malaysia received 4.1 million visitors from Indonesia in 2024, up 19.1 per cent from the previous year.

With the figure, Indonesia remains the biggest tourist market to Malaysia among ASEAN nations.

“Meanwhile, 2.2 million Malaysians visited Indonesia in 2024, including to Surabaya,” he said while officiating Malaysia Fair 2025 organised by Tourism Malaysia and Malaysia Healthcare Tourism Council (MHTC) here, on Friday.

According to him, 1.6 million Indonesians chose Malaysia for their medical treatments in 2024, representing a 14 per cent increase from the previous year. The figure has established Malaysia as one of the most popular medical tourism destinations in this region.

Syed Mohamad Hasrin also invited the people of Surabaya to experience the various attractions in Malaysia such as the beauty of Pulau Langkawi which has been recognised by the UNESCO as a Global Geopark, to Kuala Lumpur which is one of the foremost shopping destinations in the world.

“Tourism is not just an industry, but also a bridge of friendship that brings together Malaysians and Indonesians.

“May our visits to the other side this year pave the way towards more visits in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” he added.

Malaysia Fair 2025, currently taking place until Sept 28 at Pakuwon Mall, features more than 19 Malaysian private hospitals booths and 20 travel agency booths, including Malaysia Airlines and the Marriott International Hotel Group.

Syed Mohamad Hasrin was accompanied by Tourism Malaysia Jakarta Deputy Director Siti Hajar Mohd Yunus.
