FAQs On BUDI95 Programme Available On Official Portal

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- Under the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative launched by the Ministry of Finance (MoF), Malaysians are eligible for up to 300 litres of RON95 petrol a month at a subsidised rate.

According to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on the official portal https://www.budimadani.gov.my/, the MoF said eligibility determination was important to prevent subsidies from being misused by ineligible parties.

The ministry said the amount was set based on government data, which showed it was sufficient for over 99 per cent of private vehicle users, whose average petrol consumption is about 80 litres a month.

“However, the government has set a higher eligibility ceiling to reflect the range and distribution of individual consumption,” it said through the portal.

In addition, the MoF said the 300 litres allocated by the government also took into account non-vehicle uses for groups such as farmers and small businesses.

“Groups that have applied for a special permit from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) may purchase more than 20 litres for non-vehicle purposes, such as agricultural use,” it said.

The MoF said once the BUDI95 balance was exhausted, subsequent purchases would be charged at the original non-subsidised fuel price.

Meanwhile, the ministry, in a post on X today, said the public can check their eligibility for the RON95 petrol subsidy through the official portal https://www.budimadani.gov.my/ starting at 9 am.

A check of the website found that eligibility can be verified using only the identity card number, with no new registration required.

Earlier, the MoF said users were required to insert their MyKad into the scanner at the petrol pump once for activation before making payment by cash, credit/debit card or e-wallet.

“The BUDI95 programme will be rolled out in stages to avoid congestion, with certain groups such as military and police personnel given early access before it is opened to the public,” it said in a statement on Monday.

It also said that all Malaysians aged 16 and above with a MyKad and a valid driving licence were eligible to purchase RON95 at RM1.99 per litre for up to 300 litres a month starting Sept 30.

E-hailing drivers, however, were given the option to apply for a higher eligibility ceiling via the official portal.

For further details, the public can visit the official portal or call the BUDI MADANI helpline at 1300-88-9595.
