MELAKA, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government has forged a strategic collaboration with Honda Malaysia through the use of 25 electric vehicles (EVs) in conjunction with the organisation of the World Tourism Day (WTD) and World Tourism Conference (WTC) 2025, as well as the launch of the Visit Malaysia 2026 (TMM2026) in the state.

The Melaka Chief Minister’s Department said in a statement today that the strategic collaboration is part of Honda Malaysia’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitment to support the state government’s efforts in promoting green mobility and environmental sustainability.

It added that the EVs would be used by state government agencies for operational and promotional purposes, especially in supporting green initiatives and sustainable development in Melaka.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said, in the same statement, that the state government welcomes the collaboration because it not only supports service delivery in terms of logistics, but also symbolises a shared commitment to promoting sustainable practices and reducing carbon footprint in the state.

“The vehicles involved will serve as key assets in showcasing Melaka’s image as a modern and environmentally conscious tourist destination, in tandem with the WTD 2025 theme of ‘Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” he said.

Meanwhile, in the same statement, Honda Malaysia chief executive officer Narushi Yazaki said the 25 EVs were loaned to the state government to help transform Melaka into a green and sustainable city.

“Through this collaboration, Melaka is on the right track to becoming a leader in the sustainable mobility ecosystem in Malaysia, thus supporting the country’s target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050,” he said.

The WTD and WTC 2025 will be in Melaka for three days from Saturday (Sept 27), while TMM2026 will be launched on the same day by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
