KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 (Bernama) --- MNRB Holdings Berhad through its MNRB Scholarship Fund has channelled over RM19.8 million in scholarships to 736 students so far to nurture skilled and professional workforce in the insurance and takaful industries.
MNRB Holdings Berhad interim president and group chief executive officer Datuk Rudy Rodzila Che Lamin said the scholarships were not merely financial aid but also offered industrial training opportunities, self development programmes and career guidance to recipients.
“This holistic approach prepares comprehensive experience and skills as preparation to become industry professional workforce for the future,” he said in an exclusive interview with the media recently.
The MNRB Scholarship Fund was set up on April 1, 1998 to focus on major courses such as actuary science, information technology, statistics, data science, lecturing, syariah, accounting, law, risk management, engineering and insurance, and scholarships are offered for full time courses at matriculation, foundation, diploma and bachelor’s degree programmes at local public and private universities.
Rudy Rodzila said that in addition to excellent academic results, leadership qualities, active participation in co-curricular activities, integrity, teamwork and social involvement in communities were taken into consideration for the selection of recipients.
“We believe well-rounded students hold the potential to be credible future leaders,” he said.
In partnership with the Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII), the fund has been expanded to professionals serving in the local insurance industry through scholarships for part-time Associateship of the Malaysian Insurance Institute (AMII) Level 1 and Level 2 courses at MII.
Besides this, MNRB also plans to increase sponsorship by expanding the courses that are in line with industry needs through partnerships with local and foreign universities, and to expand its reach to rural students, including those from the B40 and M40 groups.
This year, over 500 applications were received with 17 students chosen through a tight screening process that encompassed academic achievements, interviews and leadership evaluations.
He added that 79 recipients are now part of the MNRB family, while many others contribute to the industry by holding key positions and being active in professional bodies.
“About 10 per cent of recipients now work with MNRB, some holding senior positions in the group and within the industry,” Rudy Rodzila noted as he shared future plans of increasing the number of recipients.
“Our hope is that recipients not only excel academically, but have the resilience and determination to be dedicated leaders ready to contribute to the community, industry and country,” he added.
Scholarship applications are open yearly on the MNRB official website at www.mnrb.com.my and the company’s LinkedIn page, and further details on the conditions and fields of study being announced periodically.
