PUTRAJAYA, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- The Department of Director General of Lands and Mines (JKPTG), under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), remains committed to leading the transformation of federal government land management through a strategic, integrated, and sustainable governance approach.
In a statement today, NRES affirmed that this commitment is being realised through the continuous implementation of policies, strategic planning, and reform initiatives, designed to ensure all federal land assets are managed optimally, contributing to national development and delivering direct benefits to the people.
"A key approach introduced is the demised premises leasing initiative, which allows federal land and building assets to be developed or utilised by third parties, particularly the private sector or GLCs, without any change in ownership,” said the ministry.
Demised premises refers to any federally owned land, building, or unit that meets specific criteria, such as being fully or partially developed on federal land.
The statement was released in conjunction with the 9th National Land Day celebration here today, officiated by Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister of Plantation and Commodities and acting NRES Minister.
NRES and JKPTG observe National Land Day on July 27 annually, a date commemorating the appointment of the first Commissioner of Lands and Mines in the Federated Malay States on July 27, 1896.
This year marks the ninth official celebration since the Cabinet approved the annual observance in 2017.
Themed “Federal Land Management Driving the Prosperity and Sustainability of MADANI Malaysia", this year's celebration focuses on critical issues in federal land governance and proposes improvements toward more sustainable, efficient, and high-impact land administration.
In his speech, the Director-General of Lands and Mines, Datuk Muhammad Azmi Mohd Zain, emphasised that the celebration symbolises the government’s appreciation for the contributions of land administration officers across the country to ensure land legislation and administration remain relevant and aligned with national development goals.
"I encourage all attendees to take this opportunity to learn from our expert speakers. Apply these insights as a reference to enhance workflows and efficiency in your respective offices.
“Furthermore, this gathering of ministry and federal agency staff fosters valuable networking and collaboration, which is essential for improving public service delivery," he added.
The two-day event features the Federal Land Conference today, the Assistant Land Officers’ Conference tomorrow, and the Federal Land Carnival, which serves as a promotional platform for federal lands available for leasing or tenancy to stakeholders, individuals, and interested organisations.
