KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has expressed its appreciation to the government for introducing the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy under the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative, which takes effect on Sept 27 for PDRM and Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) personnel.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said that PDRM believes that the initiative will bring positive implications to its personnel serving nationwide.

“Easing the burden of fuel costs can directly boost the motivation and resilience of personnel, in carrying out their duties to safeguard public peace and security,” he said in a statement today.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the price of RON95 petrol would be reduced to RM1.99 per litre from RM2.05 per litre, under the BUDI95 initiative.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the BUDI95 initiative will first be rolled out to 300,000 military and police personnel on Sept 27, followed by B40 recipients of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) cash aid on Sept 28. On Sept 30, it will be extended to 16 million Malaysians aged 16 and above who hold a valid MyKad and driving licence.

Mohd Khalid said that as a law enforcement institution upholding the Malaysia MADANI aspiration, PDRM views the initiative as a reflection of the government’s concern for the people’s welfare.

“This initiative not only eases the cost-of-living burden, but also strengthens social well-being and national stability, while demonstrating the government’s commitment to ensuring that assistance reaches the target groups fairly and effectively,” he said.

He also praised the innovative use of MyKad at petrol stations as an eligibility verification mechanism, describing it as aligned with the country’s digitalisation efforts, and a reflection of the government’s commitment to optimising technology for transparent, efficient and sustainable subsidy governance.
