Unity And Culture Shine At Malaysia Day Celebration In Finland

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- The Embassy of Malaysia in Helsinki, Finland, celebrated the 62nd Malaysia Day with a vibrant cultural programme on Saturday (Sept 20), bringing together Malaysians and friends for an afternoon of patriotism, community spirit, and festive celebration.

The Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, Al-Fadil Adam, in his opening remarks, highlighted the significance of Malaysia Day as a reminder of unity, diversity and a shared national identity.

He said the commemoration was also an opportunity for Malaysians abroad to come together and reflect on the values that bind them as a nation and showcase Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage to the Finnish community.

The celebration, held at the Embassy on Saturday, brought together 120 people and opened with the singing of the national anthem, Negaraku.

The celebration featured an interactive programme, including a Malaysia Day Quiz that tested participants’ knowledge of the nation’s history, culture and trivia, with prizes awarded to the top three winners.

A colourful Best Costume Contest also added colour to the occasion, as participants showcased traditional and creative Malaysian attire. 

Each participant received a token of appreciation, while the top five best costumes were selected by an Embassy panel and presented with awards in a lively countdown.

The event concluded with a “makan-makan” session featuring a spread of Malaysian dishes, a cherished aspect of the country’s culture that celebrates togetherness through food.

In line with the Embassy’s ongoing outreach efforts, the Malaysia Day celebration not only strengthened the sense of belonging among Malaysians in Finland but also promoted cultural understanding and appreciation among local guests.
