SIBU, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak ICT Association (SICTA) has been urged to play a role in helping Sarawak achieve the aspirations of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 of becoming a developed and high-income region.
Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said SICTA's role has now become more important, especially in expanding digital infrastructure.
He said SICTA can also assist in the aspect of human capital development by enhancing the skills of youth and the workforce in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) technology and cybersecurity.
"In fostering an innovation ecosystem, SICTA can assist startups, promote research and development (R&D), as well as provide local solution platforms in priority sectors such as agriculture, forestry and health.
"This contribution will ensure SICTA not only celebrates past achievements, but also shapes Sarawak's future in line with aspirations towards 2030," he said at SICTA's 25th anniversary celebration here last night.
Meanwhile, he said the ministry is committed to working with industry players such as SICTA to develop digital talent, expand digital inclusion to rural and remote areas and build a globally competitive local innovation ecosystem.
“Let us together ensure that Sarawak is not only part of Malaysia’s digital transformation, but also a leader in showcasing how people-centric and AI-powered smart cities can be built,” he added.
He said that over the past two and a half decades, SICTA had grown into a strong voice representing more than 350 member firms with over 3,000 employees in Kuching, Sibu, Miri and Bintulu, all of which have made significant contributions to the communities and people of Sarawak.
