KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- National squash player Rachel Arnold fought hard to secure her place in the second round of the Egyptian Open 2025 after edging compatriot Aifa Azman in a five-game thriller in Giza last night.
Rachel came back strongly after dropping the opening game to seal a 3-2 (9-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-13, 12-10) victory and will next face Salma Hany of Egypt later today.
Earlier, Aifa’s younger sister Aira staged an impressive comeback to oust Egypt’s Nadine Shahin 3-2 (6-11, 9-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-3) and set up a second-round clash against world number three Hania El Hammamy of Egypt.
However, Malaysia’s challenge suffered a setback when Aina Amani bowed out after losing 2-3 (11-7, 11-5, 4-11, 8-11, 7-11) to Scotland’s Georgia Adderley.
Meanwhile, national number one S. Sivasangari, who received a first-round bye, will open her campaign in the second round against Egypt’s Nour Heikal.
In the men’s competition, national ace Ng Eain Yow will begin his campaign with a second-round tie against local player Kareem El Torkey.
