PUTRAJAYA, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- 'Pondok Kepimpinan’ - a nationhood literacy programme specifically for youths and students from various backgrounds - was launched today to provide a deeper understanding of nationhood issues, leadership modules and media literacy.

The workshop-based programme, which is set to produce an authoritative and critical-thinking young generation of leaders capable of facing future challenges, was launched by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan.

Zulkifli said the programme was created to answer current challenges faced by youths, including the dissemination of fake news, digital extremism, as well as social and political polarisation.

"We also hope that it can thwart narrow religious narratives through various platforms, especially on social media.

"I am confident this 'Pondon Kepimpinan’ initiative can produce more young leaders who are moderate in their thinking, wise in their actions and far-sighted in their vision, so that they can hopefully guide society with wisdom and build a prosperous national landscape,” he said in a statement today.

A total of 37 workshops will be conducted nationwide, with the main focus being the participation of youths and students from various backgrounds.

The programme, which is handled by Merdeka Center, also has the backing and cooperation of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Deputy Ministers' Office at the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs).

The strategic partners for the programme include the Malaysian Nationhood Academy (AKM), Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) and other civil society organisations.

Merdeka Center programme director Ibrahim Suffian said in the same statement that youths could, through the 'Pondok Kepimpinan’ initiative, understand the concept of nationhood as well as sharpen their ability to assess current issues through critical and constructive thinking.
