PEKAN, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- The Mohd Irwan identical triplets, undeterred by four failed attempts to join the armed forces, have kept their dream alive by voluntarily enrolling in the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) 3.0 Series 3/2025 at the 505th Territorial Army Regiment Camp here.
The siblings from Putrajaya, Muhammad Nuriman and his brothers, Muhammad Nuramin and Muhammad Nurnaim, aged 20, hope their participation in PLKN will serve as a stepping stone to being accepted into the armed forces one day.
Muhammad Nuriman said they have always been passionate about uniformed bodies since childhood, especially the military, which led them to join the Volunteer Young Soldier Basic Course (APMS) under the Territorial Army in July.
“After completing training last month, we continued with PLKN because our mother registered us, aware of her children’s keen interest in the military.
“We applied to join the armed forces after SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) but were not successful. However, this does not discourage us from seeking opportunities in the military field, including participating in PLKN,” he told reporters when registering at the camp today.
Accompanied by their parents, civil servants Mohd Irwan Ismail, 52, and Yusnizah Mohd Yusof, 51, the triplets expressed hope that PLKN would give them an advantage when reapplying to the armed forces later.
“At PLKN, I hope to strengthen our military fundamentals and discipline, especially in drills and shooting, while also making friends from different backgrounds,” said Muhammad Nurnaim.
Meanwhile, Yusnizah said she registered her third, fourth, and youngest children for the programme during the MADANI Rakyat event in Terengganu, as she recognised their strong interest in the military.
“This is all for their own good, and PLKN is truly beneficial for instilling discipline. They have always shown an interest in the military, as several family members are serving or have served in the armed forces,” said the mother of five.
Meanwhile, National Service Training Department deputy director of training, Colonel Samad Igom, said that 477 individuals applied for deferment from this PLKN series, citing reasons such as health issues and pursuing studies.
He said applicants are allowed two opportunities to request deferment, provided they submit valid reasons.
Samad added that, as of noon, a total of 279 male trainees had registered at Camp 505, while over 20 participants from Sabah and Sarawak were expected to arrive this afternoon.
