MINDEF, MOHE To Strengthen Collaboration To Keep Palapes Syllabus Relevant - Adly

SHAH ALAM, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) will strengthen collaboration to ensure that the syllabus and training of the Reserve Officers’ Training Unit (Palapes) remain relevant to current needs.

Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said the review must place emphasis on shaping students’ identity while also preparing them to shoulder their responsibilities as part of the national defence force.

“Palapes is one of our key sources of defence personnel and officers at the ministry level. We regularly discuss the implementation of Palapes programme, and whenever issues arise, we work to improve them.

“…We will also review several regulations to ensure that safety remains our top priority, as military training involves many physical aspects. Health and related factors will also be taken into account,” he said.

He said this when met after officiating the Selangor Amanah Convention here today.

On Sept 4, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin reportedly said that his ministry would enhance the curriculum and training content to encourage more Palapes cadets to join the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).

He said the initiative aims to attract students to participate during their university years and to ensure that the experience brings lasting benefits rather than ending without continuity after graduation.
